Though one of my favorite objects, the thought of chopping off the nose of a sawfish, for just that, is a horrifying reality. I'm sure my parents picked it up as a souvenir back in the 60's on one of their trips to the islands. As kids we were fascinated with it, would wield it around as a weapon and spent hours running our fingers over the sharp teeth, which are actually dermal denticles, a type of scale. The Smalltooth Sawfish is on the IUCN Red List for critically endangered species and has been on the US Endangered Species list since 2003.
I love the graphic nature of the nose and by blending two colors of ink, charcoal and beige, every print is unique. The image area is approximately 20"wide x 4"high. Print is sold unframed.
